Regional Agricultural Show Development Grants

Show societies in regional Victoria are encouraged to apply for the Australian Government’s Regional Agricultural Show Development Grants before the 13 December deadline in order to upgrade, maintain, buy or build new showground infrastructure and attractions.

Liberal Senator for Victoria, Sarah Henderson, is encouraging regionally located show societies to apply for a share in the $20 million funding to improve infrastructure.

“Agricultural shows are part of our community identity, and are a great way to demonstrate regional Victoria’s thriving local industry, commerce, culture and community,” Senator Henderson said.

“Our regional agricultural shows have been running for decades and showcase the very best of our local produce that results from generations of tradition and know-how.

“Under the grants, eligible, regionally based show societies and agricultural show peak bodies can receive grants of up to $500,000.  This provides an important opportunity for show societies in Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and Apollo Bay for instance.

“The grants can be used for repairs or upgrades of existing showground facilities such as outdoor seating, new infrastructure such as a grandstand, assets like portable sheep holding yards or attractions like an agricultural virtual reality exhibit.

“The Morrison Liberal Government is committed to bridging the divide between the city and the country.

“Agricultural shows are an important way for people in our cities to get a taste of the important job our farmers do in supplying our country and the world, with clean, green, sustainable produce.

“These grants are about ensuring our community can continue staging local shows and other events such as pony clubs and farmers’ markets for many years to come.

“The Regional Agricultural Show Development Grants program is part of the Morrison Liberal Government election commitment to boost regional agricultural shows,” Senator Henderson said.

Applications close on 13 December 2019, with successful applicants expected to be announced in the first half of 2020.
