Labor must unlock the Mornington Peninsula

I call on the Premier to urgently ease restrictions on the Mornington Peninsula.

The rolling 14 day average of new COVID-19 cases is zero.

It is imperative that the Mornington Peninsula be included as a part of regional Victoria. Sorrento is, after all, 70 kilometres from Melbourne. There is no public health rationale for keeping Peninsula residents in such extreme lockdown.

This is causing enormous damage to the local economy as well as to the health and well being of residents. The Sorrento to Queenscliff ferry is a major gateway to Geelong and the Great Ocean Road so this lockdown is causing widespread harm.

Based on thresholds set by the Victorian Government, the Peninsula should be moving to Stage 1 restrictions.

This is just another example of draconian and unnecessary restrictions being imposed on Victorians.

The Victorian Government must also immediately issue a home maintenance exemption so that Melbourne residents with second homes in regional Victoria, including the Mornington Peninsula, are able to conduct urgent home maintenance including to mitigate bushfire risk.
