Vital upgrades set to improve safety at Wendouree Station

The Australian Government has unlocked $1 million to fund works to improve safety for pedestrians and motorists around Wendouree Station, in North West Ballarat.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the project is being delivered under the Targeted Road Safety Works Program.

“The project will improve safety for drivers and pedestrians around Wendouree Station by upgrading pedestrian infrastructure and delivering important measures to lower traffic speed and volume,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.

“This is part of a broader $71.5 million Australian Government commitment to provide rapid economic stimulus and support for Victorian communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is supporting much-needed jobs at a critical time.”

Victorian Minister for Roads and Road Safety Ben Carroll said the Victorian Government was pleased to partner with the Australian Government to start the project as soon as possible.

“This project will provide a boost to the economy and local jobs,” Minister Carroll said.

“These upgrades will improve the safety of our roads to ensure not just our motorists get home safely to their loved ones but that pedestrians do as well.”

Assistant Minister for Road Safety and Freight Transport Scott Buchholz said the project is one of dozens state-wide being funded through the $500 million Targeted Road Safety Works Program.

“This is just another example of the Australian Government getting on with the job of delivering the infrastructure Victoria needs to bounce back stronger than ever from the economic shock of the past year,” Assistant Minister Buchholz said.

Senator for Victoria Sarah Henderson said the project complements the Government’s $503 million investment in the recently completed Stage 1 of the Ballarat Rail Line Upgrade, which included upgrades to Wendouree Station.

“We are continuing to invest infrastructure to support regional growth and by upgrading Wendouree Station and the surrounding area, pedestrians, motorists and passengers all benefit from safer, more efficient travel,” Senator Henderson said.

More information on the Targeted Road Safety Works program is available on the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications website.

This investment is part of the Australian Government’s $110 billion, 10-year infrastructure pipeline, which is delivering a stronger and more resilient Australia.
