Today’s decision by the Liberal Party to reject Labor’s reckless net zero target by 2050 is a big win for Victorian families, small businesses, manufacturers and regional communities.
It is also a big win for common sense.
In the face of skyrocketing energy prices driven by Labor’s renewables-only madness, the Liberal Party will deliver responsible energy policies which prioritise affordable energy while delivering lower emissions.
Australians have suffered enough under Labor’s energy mess and its unachievable emissions reduction targets.
The Albanese government sold Australians a lie. Rather than reduce power prices by $275 a year, electricity bills have soared by an average of $1,300.
Victorians are paying an extremely high price for Labor’s ideological obsession with net zero. Federal and state Labor set about dismantling our baseload power without a credible plan to keep the lights on.
Our plan includes driving investment in all forms of energy including gas and coal, lifting the prohibition on emissions-free nuclear energy, abolishing punitive ‘carbon taxes’ on industry, electricity, vehicles and land-use, and supporting a technology-led approach to reducing emissions.
After advocating for a ‘community first’ policy to protect regional communities, I am delighted we will prohibit access to federal funding for electricity infrastructure projects unless they meet the highest community standards including the safeguarding of farmers’ property rights.
