Disaster Assistance for Central West Storms in Victoria

Disaster assistance is now available in communities which have been affected in Macedon Shire by the Victorian floods and storms commencing on 26th January 2022 under the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Senator for Victoria Sarah Henderson said the DRFA will assist councils with the costs of road and infrastructure repairs and clean-up and support residents with emergency assistance where needed.

“The extreme weather brought strong winds, heavy rainfall and flash flooding that left extensive debris across roads and properties,” Senator Henderson said.

“Support to councils is available for the costs of the restoration of essential public assets.

“The Australian Government is working closely with the Victorian Government and we are ready to provide further assistance as necessary.”

Disaster assistance has been activated in seven Local Government Areas – Mt Alexander Shire, Indigo Shire, Macedon Shire, Mildura Shire, Towong Shire, Wellington Shire and the City of Wodonga.

Affected local councils should contact Emergency Management Victoria via email [email protected] to discuss the availability of assistance.

Information on disaster assistance is available on the Australian Government’s website at www.disasterassist.gov.au and the Vic Emergency website www.emergency.vic.gov.au/relief
