Building better regions across the Ballarat electorate

From a new scout and community facility at Ballan to plans to boost visitation to the Moorabool region, four new projects across the Ballarat electorate will benefit from the latest round of the Morrison Government’s Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF).

Senator for Victoria Sarah Henderson said the funding will improve key community facilities at Ballan and Trentham and boost visitation to Moorabool as well as the Ballarat International Foto Biennale 2021.

“I am delighted that $615,000 in funding from the Morrison Government has been awarded through round 5 of the BBRF to support the following successful projects:

  • $550,000 for the Scouts Association of Victoria to build brand new multi-purpose Scout and Community Activity Centre and meeting space at Ballan
  • $25,000 for Moorabool Shire Council to develop a Visitor Economy Strategy for the Moorabool region
  • $20,000 for the revitalisation of the outdoor area of the Trentham Neighbourhood Centre Community Outdoor Space
  • $20,000 for the exhibition “Say it with Flowers” featuring a diverse range of Australian and First Nations artists as part of the Ballarat International Foto Biennale 2021.

“I congratulate all recipients including Ballan scouts on its vision for the Ballan Scout and Community Centre. Not only will this $1.1 million redevelopment be an important home for the local scouting movement, it will be a great community asset for Ballan.

“The funding support for the Foto Biennale, for tourism to the Moorabool region and the Trentham Neighbourhood Centre reflects the Morrison Government’s deep commitment to building stronger and more resilient regional communities which have been hit hard during the pandemic.

“This announcement builds on key investments by the Morrison Government across the Ballarat electorate including more than half a billion dollars for the Ballarat rail line, major road upgrades, a new headspace, super fast broadband for Ballarat CBD, numerous community infrastructure projects and $10 million for Sovereign Hill,” Senator Henderson said.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Barnaby Joyce said the Morrison Government is providing an additional $100 million in funding under Round 5 of the Building Better Regions fund, to take total funding to almost $300 million.

“This extra funding will support more projects, more jobs and create more economic opportunities in our regions to boost their recovery from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
