Anam Cara Geelong Hospice, under construction at Deakin’s Waurn Ponds campus, is one of three local projects to share in funding under Round 5 of the Morrison Government’s Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF).
Senator for Victoria, Senator Sarah Henderson, said the BBRF is one of the many ways that the Morrison Government is supporting jobs growth and economic recovery in regional communities.
“Building on the Morrison Government’s $5 million funding contribution which kick started the development of a new Anam Cara Geelong hospice, I am delighted that this state-of-the-art palliative care facility is now fully funded.
“I congratulate Anam Cara Geelong on its vision and commitment to providing the very best care to people suffering life-limiting illness, along with their carers and families.
“The $2.19 million grant for Stage 2 of the project, with matched funding from Anam Cara Geelong, will fund the fit-out of eight new end-of-life bedrooms and ensuites, as well as providing a commercial kitchen, library and landscaping.
The BBRF projects to receive funding across the Geelong region are:
- $2.19 million to complete eight end-of-life bedrooms and ensuites, a commercial kitchen, library, landscaping and new footpaths at the new Anam Cara Geelong Hospice at Deakin University Waurn Ponds Campus;
- $50,000 to Good Shepherd Australia to deliver a 2-3 year Financial Inclusion Action Plan for Geelong; and
- $20,000 to Belmont Traders to deliver a community event in the summer of 2021-22 in Belmont
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Barnaby Joyce said the extra funding will support more projects, more jobs and create more economic opportunities in our regions recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This $300 million BBRF round will support 295 local infrastructure and community projects, creating an estimated 9,900 jobs during the project period,” Deputy Prime Minister Joyce said.
“Across these five rounds, the Government has now provided $1.38 billion across nearly 1,300 projects under the Building Better Regions Fund.”
Applications under BBRF Round 6 are expected to open later this year.
