I was delighted to formally open the new Bannockburn Heart project, backed by $1.2 million from the Morrison Liberal Government.
This $3 million project has transformed the centre of Bannockburn and I congratulate Golden Plains Shire on its vision.
The Bannockburn Heart projects includes a wonderful water play space; recreation equipment, public toilets and barbeques, shaded space and beautiful landscaping.
As part of the project, the Golden Plains Farmers’ Market has received upgraded facilities, the Bannockburn Scouts have a new shed and the Bannockburn Playgroup has been relocated. Power and fire services have also been upgraded.
I was very proud to have secured this funding as the former local Liberal MP. This is yet one more example of how the Liberals are delivering for regional Victoria.
The project also received $1,233,500 from the Golden Plains Council and $566,500 from the Victorian Government. The drinking fountains were provided by Barwon Water and Bannockburn and District Lions Club helped fund the BBQ facilities.
Stage 2 of the project which includes a village green and performance stage is dependent on the relocation of the CFA and SES buildings.
Despite much lobbying, it is disappointing that the Victorian Government has not yet provided the funds to construct a new CFA and SES station. I urge the state to prioritise this funding so that council is in a position to progress stage 2 of the project.
