The City of Ballarat will receive $3.9 million as part of the 2020-21 Federal Budget for local road and community infrastructure projects, as part of a national $1 billion infrastructure fund designed to kick-start local jobs growth and investment.
In the Ballarat electorate, Hepburn Shire Council will receive $1.06 million and Moorabool Shire Council will receive $1.7 million.
This is a big win for local residents. I encourage them to provide feedback to their local council as to the infrastructure projects which should be prioritised.
This funding will be made available immediately under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program for new projects to construct or upgrade council-owned assets, providing the money is expended by December 2021.
In order to support Ballarat’s immediate economic recovery, this funding is being provided on a “use it or lose it” basis meaning councils must deliver these projects within the required timeframe.
The Morrison Government’s Budget is delivering the economic recovery plan Australians need to support our recovery from a once in a century pandemic. The LRCI Program empowers local governments and communities nation-wide to deliver funding for priority projects.
The Morrison Government is also delivering an additional $2 billion for a new road safety program which will support upgrades. Improving road safety in regional Victoria is a core priority for the Government and that’s why this additional investment builds on the $500 million we are already delivering for targeted road safety works.
