With bush fire season fast approaching, I am deeply concern about plans to close the Mt Gellibrand fire tower which is critical to the safety of so many families and communities across our region.
From Winchelsea to Birregurra to Beeac to Inverleigh, the tower has played a vital role in spotting fires and in protecting and saving lives.
The current member for Corangamite has done absolutely nothing to stand up for the CFA. It is time she started showing an interest in the safety and well-being of country communities. I urge Libby Coker to support her constituents and back the call for Daniel Andrews to fund a new fire tower in next week’s state budget.
The Victorian Government continues to treat the CFA as second class citizens.
The CFA is forced to beg and fund-raise for vital firefighting equipment such as fire trucks. Too many CFA fire brigades have inadequate resources and facilities. The Mt Gellibrand fire tower is an essential part of the CFA’s fire-fighting arsenal and its closure is absolutely untenable.
I have already been contacted by farmers who are extremely concerned about the risks posed by the lack of a fire tower which should have been properly maintained.
So, I say to Libby Coker, start standing up for all parts of your electorate.
