I have absolute confidence that regional Victorians will rise to the challenge and comply with new Covid restrictions announced by the Victorian Government.
Today, there has been an alarming jump in the number of new Covid positive cases.
As a regional Senator for Victoria, I have seen first hand how hard local communities are working to do the right thing.
As from midnight tonight, no visitors are permitted in any home in the municipalities of Greater Geelong, Surf Coast, Colac Otway, Golden Plains, Queenscliffe and Moorabool.
As from midnight Sunday 2 August, all regional Victorians will be required to wear masks or face coverings subject to some limited exceptions.
These restrictions are based on the best medical advice and are supported by the Morrison Government.
The level of community transmission in our community is way too high and it is imperative we work together to flatten this second wave.
We all need to be #inthistogether.
As the number of cases in regional Victoria increases, the risk of transmission in residential aged care facilities – home to the some of the most vulnerable in our community – is of particular concern.
The wearing of masks by all aged care workers was mandated several weeks ago. As the Prime Minister made clear today, the failure to adhere to PPE requirements in aged care homes will place the accreditation of that facility at risk.
