Join the fight to save Fort Queenscliff

Liberal senator for Victoria, Sarah Henderson, will convene an urgent community meeting in Queenscliff this coming Sunday following the Albanese government’s disgraceful decision to sell off Fort Queenscliff.

The Albanese government’s defence fire-sale is a shocking betrayal of our community.

Some 67 properties have been targeted including Fort Queenscliff, the Swan Island golf course, Newland Barracks in Geelong and an Air Force cadets training facility in Newtown.

“This decision, without any consultation, shows contempt for our heritage, our region and Australia’s defence capability,” Senator Henderson said.

“Fort Queenscliff is one of Victoria’s most important historic sites and one of the largest and best preserved forts in the country.”

“Defence Minister Richard Marles’ shocking decision, backed by Corangamite MP Libby Coker, shows a profound lack of respect for our community.”

“The fort is deeply woven into the identity of Queenscliff and the Bellarine. Selling it off to the highest bidder opens the door to inappropriate development which is a frightening prospect.”

“Together, let’s fight this fire-sale and save Fort Queenscliff.”

“I urge every local resident who cares about our history, our identity and our future to attend the community meeting,” Senator Henderson said.

The meeting will be held at Queenscliff Recreation Reserve clubrooms, 136 Hesse Street Queenscliff, 12.00pm – 1.00pm on Sunday 15 February 2026.
