Senator for Victoria Sarah Henderson welcomed back international visitors to Victoria, after the borders reopened on Monday (21 February).
“The return of double vaccinated international visitors will reinvigorate Australia’s tourism sector including the tourism jobs and businesses across regional Victoria,” Senator Henderson said.
“The reopening of our international borders is another important sign of our recovery from COVID-19.
“More than 94 per cent of the eligible population aged over 16 are now protected with a double vaccination.
“The Australian economy has remained strong and creating jobs through the peak of the Omicron surge with almost 13,000 jobs added to hit a record high at the same time as female workforce participation hit the highest level on record.
“Australians can travel overseas again, and now we are welcoming international visitors back to our country.
“We’re looking forward to sharing regional Victoria again with the rest of world.”
Tourism Australia has launched a $40 million international marketing campaign to coincide with the reopening of our international borders as the first step in a long-term strategy to restart tourism to Australia, with further investment in tourism marketing campaigns internationally to come in the second half of the year.
Visa holders who are not fully vaccinated will still require a valid travel exemption to enter Australia, and will be subject to state and territory quarantine requirements.
