Supporting students and families impacted by drought

I welcome the announcement that the Morrison Liberal Government has doubled the financial support available to schools impacted by drought to improve support offered to local students and their families.

In times of drought, it is essential we ensure that our children continue to receive a
world-class education.

We also need to support our schools because of the important role they play as a rallying point for our community.

Our Government is providing $20 million to assist non-government schools facing financial issues as a result of the drought through the Special Circumstances Fund.

Schools and boarding schools have been assisting families impacted by the drought by offering fee relief and additional support.

Our Government is taking action to support those schools so they can continue to support the families impacted by the drought.

Catholic schools in drought-affected regions of Victoria will share $810,500 in state allocated funding to be provided through the Catholic education authority.

Independent schools in drought-affected regions will share $624,000 to continue to support families impacted by the drought in Victoria.

Special Circumstances Funds are expected to reach school authorities in the coming weeks.

Drought support for public schools is being administered by the state and territory governments.
