Victorian Labor’s shameful schools tax which passed the Victorian Parliament last night will mean lost jobs for teachers and higher fees for parents.
This is a prejudiced, ideological attack on Victorian parents who choose to send their children to non-government schools, including those of faith, which make up more than one third of all Victorian schools.
Labor’s schools tax will place enormous financial pressure on low-fee non-government schools which provide families with a choice of education across Victoria.
Most families which send their children to a non-government school aren’t wealthy; they simply want to choose the type of education they believe is right for their child. Many parents work second jobs and make other big sacrifices to pay school fees.
I condemn the Albanese Government and Education Minister, Jason Clare, for failing to stand up for Victorian independent and non-government schools on such an important issue.
Under the most extreme left-wing Prime Minister in living memory, Mr Albanese has demonstrated, yet again, his failure to put students and their families first.
