Australia Day is a time for all Australians to reflect, respect and celebrate.
It is a day for all Australians to listen to each other’s stories, reflect on our past including our wrongs and celebrate our incredible achievements.
Our nation has been forged over thousands of years, first through indigenous Australians and more recently with people from all corners of the earth.
On this Australia Day, I pay tribute to all Australians for their compassion, resilience and sacrifice during the pandemic, especially to our frontline health workers.
More than a commemoration of a single day in our nation’s history, Australia Day is a time for our nation to come together.
In contrast to the current member for Corangamite, I don’t support changing the date.
I am also disappointed about the ABC’s initial position that the name “Australia Day” was interchangeable with the name “Invasion Day” which is clearly incorrect and has now been corrected by the ABC.
