Australian teachers deserve to be celebrated … and so much more

Shadow Minister for Education, Sarah Henderson, has called on the Albanese Government to take real action to fix the growing teacher shortage crisis, saying a TV advertising campaign is not enough.

“While the Coalition welcomes the government’s TV campaign celebrating Australian teachers, it is clear that Education Minister Jason Clare has no plan to get more teachers into the classroom next year,” Senator Henderson said.

“Fixing the teacher shortage, particularly in rural and regional areas, must be an urgent priority for the Albanese Government.”

“Australian teachers do the most incredible job transforming young lives. But it is critical that Labor delivers the support teachers require to stop them leaving the profession in droves.”

“Teachers are being burdened by an over-crowded curriculum which makes the job of teaching numeracy and literacy, the foundations of education, even more challenging.”

“With one in three children failing NAPLAN, teachers need greater support including to deliver evidence-based teaching such as explicit instruction so that every child reaches their full potential,” said Senator Henderson.
