I am calling on local residents to sign up to the COVIDSafe app which will support our nation’s health response to the coronavirus pandemic and save lives.
I will be downloading and signing up to the app at 6.00pm tonight when registrations open.
The more people who sign up to the app, the sooner we will be able to get through this pandemic. While this is voluntary, I believe we all have an important responsibility to get on board.
The app will help public health officials minimise the spread of the coronavirus by providing automated contact tracing information.
Rather than undertake a laborious manual process of contact tracing, COVIDSafe will speed up the process of identifying people who have been in close contact with someone diagnosed with coronavirus.
This will not only help to minimise the spread of this highly infectious virus, it will also protect our doctors, nurses and other frontline health workers.
Across regional Victoria, communities have done an extraordinary job at flattening the curve by complying with social distancing and other restrictions to contain the spread of the virus.
In order to ease restrictions, increased testing, tracing and response are key.
Signing up to COVIDSafe is another way we can protect our community and save lives.
It would be wonderful if regional Victorians could lead the way in signing up to COVIDSafe. Let’s show the rest of Australia we are up for the challenge.
26 April 2020.
