Petition: Surf Coast Aquatic Centre with 50 metre pool
PLEASE SIGN MY PETITION for a Surf Coast Aquatic Centre which includes a proper state of the art 50 metre competition pool. This is backed by many in our community including:
Surf Coast Aquatic Leisure Centre Action Group
Local surf life saving clubs
Surf Coast Swimming Club
As your strong local voice, it is my job to listen to you.
Despite fierce opposition from Surf Coast Shire, I have worked closely with many local community champions advocating for a pool facility over a number of years. A Surf Coast Aquatic Centre is vital infrastructure for community health and well being, and so important for families, seniors and young children learning to swim.
It is inexcusable that Surf Coast Shire continues to oppose this development. As a Surf Coast councillor, the Labor candidate voted not to support the development of a pool facility back in 2015 and this motion still stands. She then proposed to slug ratepayers with a “pool tax’. Last year, Surf Coast Shire failed to apply for any federal funding despite obtaining a $10 million state commitment led by the Liberal’s Andrew Katos.
Now the Labor candidate, who opposes an aquatic centre as a councillor, wants a 25 metre pool only which is inadequate and shows once again she is not listening to the community. Labor’s pool plan has belly flopped. No-one supports it.
A Surf Coast Aquatic Centre must include:
a state of the art 50 metre pool suitable for high level competition and training
a program pool
an aquatic play park for children
allied health facilities
a full scale gymnasium.
It should be built adjacent to the indoor basketball and netball stadium (next to Surf Coast Secondary College) to which the Morrison Government has committed $5 million.
In my bid to secure federal funding and to ensure the Surf Coast gets the facility it deserves and needs, your voice really matters.
PLEASE SIGN MY PETITION BY FILLING IN YOUR DETAILS AND PRESSING SEND so that, together, we can build support for this vital community infrastructure – so important for swimming safety, health and wellbeing.
