A re-elected Morrison Liberal Government will provide up to $100,000 to fund a clubhouse near 13th Beach in Barwon Heads for the use of the 13th Beach Boardriders.
The announcement was made today by Federal Member for Corangamite, Sarah Henderson as she joined local boardriders including president Christian Pritchett.
The 13th Beach Boardriders was formed in 1977 and has been a valuable part of the surfing community ever since. The Club has been fighting to secure funds and obtain land use consent for a clubhouse near 13th Beach for its members to use for several years.
Surfing is an integral part of our coastal community and the 13th Beach boardriders need some basic facilities such as a place to gather and store equipment.
“I am so pleased the Morrison Liberal Government will provide $100,000 toward a clubhouse for this great local surfing organisation. This funding is contingent on the Boardriders receiving land use consent from the state government or council and I look forward to giving club members the support they need to secure a place they can call home,” Ms Henderson said.
“I congratulate the members of the 13th Beach Boardriders and the Club’s supporters for advocating for this investment.
“This is another important investment for our coastal communities, and comes on top of our Government’s $20 million for an indoor aquatic centre, including a 50 metre competition pool in Torquay.
“I have also secured over $7.32 million in funding for SLSC across the electorate including Anglesea, Pt Lonsdale, Jan Juc, Apollo Bay and Ocean Grove.
“The electorate of Corangamite has almost 270 kilometres of pristine coastline which is valued and used by surfers, swimmers and beachgoers.
“The Morrison Liberal Government is doing our part to protect beaches and coastal areas so that future generations can continue to enjoy the coast.
Since coming to Government, the Liberal Government has provided over $14.8 million for Corangamite environmental projects.
Ms Henderson said, “just last week, I announced a re-elected Morrison Government will invest up to $1.5 million to protect coastal dunes and combat erosion along Corangamite’s iconic coastline, including the Bellarine Peninsula and the Great Ocean Road.
“These investments are only possible because of the Morrison Government’s plan for a stronger economy.
“Only the Liberals have a proven track record when it comes to managing the Budget,” Ms Henderson said.
“By paying down debt and growing the economy, we can afford to deliver funding for these priorities in communities across Corangamite.
