I joined around 50 concerned residents – children, parents and community members – at a rally on Monday morning about road safety at the entrance to the 13th Beach Golf Links Estate. Many parents attended to raise concerns about the safety of their children.
The estate has around 200 homes, with residents including many young families. Many children who live in the 13th Beach Golf Links Estate catch school buses on Barwon Heads Rd, either heading to school on the Bellarine or in the opposite direction to Geelong. The road is especially busy in the mornings.
Unless they are driven across the road by parents, children are currently required to cross the road and navigate traffic travelling at 100kph.
The speed in this area needs to be reduced to 80kmh as a matter of urgency and state Labor needs to implement a proper traffic management solution, such as traffic lights or a roundabout.
Local residents are concerned that Bellarine Labor MP Lisa Neville has not taken any action to address their concerns.
I urge concerned community members to sign my petition at https://sarahhenderson.com.au/petition-fix-13th-beach-intersection/.
