I was delighted to visit the Geelong Sub-Branch of the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia to announce a $20,000 grant under the Morrison Government’s Saluting Their Service (STS) Commemorations Program.
The funding will go towards stage three of the upgrade and enhancement of the Vietnam Veterans Avenue of Honour and Memorial Park in North Geelong.
This will include nine new glass plaques which will provide information to visitors and a lasting legacy to salute the service of Australians in South Vietnam during the war between 1962–1975.
I was pleased to have the opportunity to inspect the Avenue of Honour and Memorial Park sites today and meet with members of the Geelong Sub-Branch in North Geelong. I look forward to seeing the plaques when they are complete.
The STS Program is an Australian Government initiative that aims to honour the service and sacrifice of Australia’s service men and women in wars, conflicts and peace operations, and to promote appreciation and understanding of the role that those who served have played in shaping the nation.
