Torquay Community Men’s Shed community garden officially open

I was proud to formally open the new Torquay Community Men’s Shed garden this week, thanks to a $5,274 grant under the Turnbull government’s Stronger Communities Program.

With a little help, I also planted a beautiful camellia tree.

The Torquay Community Men’s Shed also contributed $5,274 towards the project.

The new garden has transformed part of the precinct.  Already, the labour of love by men’s shed members has produced an amazing vegetable garden.

Mens’ sheds make such an important contribution to communities across Corangamite.

Not only do they give members a common sense of purpose and friendship, mens’ sheds play a very important role in combatting loneliness and mental health challenges that so many older people can face.

Congratulations to members of the Torquay Community Men’s Shed on this wonderful initiative.

Across Corangamite, 28 projects were funded under Rounds One and Two of the Turnbull government’s Stronger Communities Program – these include $18,000 to the Lorne CFA for the purchase of a new command vehicle, $10,000 to assist the Torquay Marine Rescue Service purchase a rescue jet ski and $10,000 to the Ocean Grove & District Men’s Shed for a shed upgrade.  The full list is here.

Applications to Round Three of the Stronger Communities Program are currently under consideration.
