Federal Member for Corangamite Sarah Henderson today announced that grant applications for Round 2 of the Turnbull Government’s Safer Streets Programme are open.
“Round 2 of the Safer Streets Programme will invest up to $29.4 million in individual grants for local government organisations and eligible incorporated not-for-profit organisations, community groups, and chambers of commerce to implement community safety and crime prevention initiatives across Australia,” Ms Henderson said.
“In the Corangamite electorate, traders in Ocean Grove, Belmont, Barwon Heads, Queenscliff and Bannockburn are seeking funding to make their shopping precincts safer.”
“Just a few months ago, we saw a smash-and-grab raid in Ocean Grove which may not occurred if CCTV cameras had been installed.”
“It is extremely disappointing that no state funding has been provided for CCTV cameras across our region. This is not good enough, particularly as State Labor has reneged on its promise to open Bellarine police stations seven days a week including the Queenscliff police station.”
“Investment in security infrastructure at local crime hotspots would reduce fear of crime and contribute to greater community safety and resilience across Corangamite.”
“I look forward to working with all Corangamite communities to support funding for this vital investment in community safety.”
