Labor’s Western Distributor a long way short of a Western Link for the Geelong region

State Labor’s Western Distributor proposal is a long way short of a western link proposed by the previous Coalition Government as part of the East West Link project.

Transurban’s proposal would see all traffic continue to be funnelled down the West Gate Freeway, almost all the way to the West Gate Bridge.

The western section of the East West Link offered a second major arterial road from the Western Ring Road though to Citylink.

I am deeply concerned that the Western Distributor proposal will not solve the terrible peak hour traffic congestion suffered by Geelong and Corangamite motorists, as well as people living in the western suburbs of Melbourne.

For many months, I have been calling on the Victorian Government to unclog the West Gate and build a western link.  A western link would deliver some 3000 construction jobs and cut some 3 hours of peak hour travel time for Geelong residents.

Locally, federal and state Labor MPs have left Geelong high and dry in not backing a western link for our region.  They have not fought for these jobs and this vital infrastructure.

That’s why I urged local residents to sign our petition at www.buildawesternlink.com.au
