Fight for federal funding for Queenscliff

I am strongly backing the Borough of Queenscliffe in its application for $1.15 million in federal funding for the Queenscliffe Lighthouse Reserve.

This is a very important project for Queenscliff and I fully support council’s application for funding under our $1 billion National Stronger Regions Fund.

This Federal Government funding program has a very strong emphasis on supporting projects which drive economic growth in regional towns and cities.

The project represents a substantial investment in tourism, supporting the growth of the local economy, as well as an upgrade to local sport and recreation facilities.

It includes a new café/kiosk, coastal revegetation, a carpark reconfiguration, improvements to the promenade, improved landscaping, seating and barbecues and ship viewing areas overlooking Port Phillip Heads.

While the previous Victorian Coalition Government committed $3.6 million to upgrade the Lighthouse Reserve along with the Recreation Reserve, it is disappointing that State Labor and the State Member for Bellarine, Lisa Neville, did not support funding for the Lighthouse Reserve project.

The National Stronger Regions Fund will provide funding for projects of between $20,000 and $10 million, covering up to 50 per cent of project costs.

This project is very important for Queenscliff which is why I have made strong representations to the Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Warren Truss.
