Federal Member for Corangamite, Sarah Henderson, has announced a $3,150 ANZAC Centenary Local Grant for the upgrade of the remembrance garden at Bannockburn Primary School.
“Bannockburn Primary’s remembrance garden is providing an outstanding tool for teachers to assist in the delivery of information regarding the Centenary of ANZAC,” Ms Henderson said.
“The school plans to place artworks and seats in the garden, as well as paving a pathway which will incorporate the names of people from Bannockburn who served in the First World War,” she said.
“A great feature of the project is that the garden will be transferred to the new primary school site, expected to be ready for the 2017/18 school years. I am so pleased that the Victorian Government has committed to build a new school for Bannockburn which I am confident will expand into a secondary school over time.”
The Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program supports local communities through funding for projects that preserve the stories of servicemen and women for generations to come.
“The Centenary of ANZAC will be the most significant period of commemoration in our nation’s history and the Federal Government is committed to providing opportunities for all Australians to participate,” she said.
“The government will ensure the Centenary of Anzac is community-focused, enabling locals to remember and commemorate the service and sacrifice of Australians who have served their nation.”
“Across the country, $125,000 has been made available to each Federal electorate for community and ex-service groups to spend on commemorative programs,” Ms Henderson said.
“I wish to thank the members of the Electorate Committee, Graham Rawlins, Cr Bob Merriman and Keith Hankin who have assisted me in assessing the many projects which have been submitted to the grants program. More announcements will occur over the coming months.”
The Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program is a key element of the Federal Government’s Anzac Centenary program, more information is available at www.anzaccentenary.gov.au.
