Federal Member for Corangamite, Sarah Henderson MP, today joined representatives from Ocean Grove sports clubs to update the community on the Federal Government’s $3.5 million election commitment to build a new sports pavilion at Shell Road Reserve.
Ms Henderson said the City of Greater Geelong had completed a project proposal and returned it to the Federal Government.
The project will go out to tender in August, with construction set to start before the end of the year.
“The City is in the final stages of designing the pavilion and will now be liaising with the clubs,” Ms Henderson said.
“The City, which is contributing $2 million to the $5.5 million project, and the Federal Government are in the process of finalising the funding agreement,” she said.
“I’m very pleased that the funding will be made available as soon as the funding agreement is signed.
“Our commitment to build a state of the art sports pavilion for Shell Road is extremely important for the Ocean Grove community. I am delighted that, in partnership with the City, we are delivering so quickly on this important commitment,” Ms Henderson said.
“After campaigning for better sporting facilities in Ocean Grove for such a long time, I am looking forward to working closely with the City and the key stakeholders to make this dream a reality,” she said.
“The development will include amenities, storage and meeting rooms, social space, kitchens, umpire facilities and additional car parking spaces.”
