JOINT STATEMENT with The Hon Sen Mitch Fifield, Minister for Communications
Residents in parts of Corangamite are set to benefit from access to fast and reliable broadband thanks to the Turnbull Government’s National Broadband Network (NBN).
More than 1300 homes and businesses around Moriac, Bellbrae and Mount Duneed can now order a high-speed NBN broadband service thanks to three new NBN fixed wireless sites being switched on this week.
With the addition of 11 fixed wireless locations switching on since the start of 2018, the NBN rollout across Corangamite is nearing completion.
Since February this year communities at Leopold, Ceres, Mt Duneed North, Gnarwarre, Marcus Hill, Inverleigh, Batesford and Winchelsea have all gained access to NBN’s fixed wireless service.
Speaking in Moriac to mark the milestone, Minister for Communications, Senator Mitch Fifield, said new research under NBN Co Limited’s (nbn) Connecting Australia study shows that the NBN will help deliver real benefits for the area.
“This new research shows that fast broadband delivered over the NBN will provide new opportunities for businesses and economic growth in the region,” Minister Fifield said.
“The improved connectivity delivered by the NBN is expected to help support up to an additional 1120 new businesses across Corangamite by 2021. The research also predicts that the rollout of the network will contribute up to 1040 additional people working primarily from home in the region,” Minister Fifield said.
Federal Member for Corangamite, Ms Sarah Henderson MP, said the NBN was already providing a fantastic opportunity for local farming and coastal communities.
“Many communities in this region have suffered from poor connectivity in the past but the Turnbull Government efforts to prioritise the rollout to underserved areas in Corangamite mean we are quickly closing the digital divide”.
“High speed broadband provides a platform for our local businesses to seize opportunities, increase collaboration and take their business to the world.”
