I am delighted that my 2016 election commitment to provide CCTV cameras to protect the business centres of Barwon Heads and Ocean Grove has been delivered.
Funding of $120,000 was granted to the City of Greater Geelong under round one of the Safer Communities Fund. The City contributed $15,000 to this project.
This project has enabled council to install CCTV camera networks in Barwon Heads and Ocean Grove as an added tool for keep the community safe from local crime and anti-social behaviour.
Some 17 cameras have been installed which will make a big difference in providing security to traders and local residents.
CCTV cameras not only act as a deterrent but assists police investigate and solve crimes when they occur.
Community safety is one of the biggest issues on the Bellarine which reflects very poorly on the local Labor MP and Police Minister, Lisa Neville.
Since the election of the Andrew’s government crime has risen by 76.69% in Barwon Heads and 17.28% in Ocean Grove.
I commend the Victorian Liberals under Matthew Guy for formulating 30 policies to tackle Victoria’s crime problem including: mandatory sentencing, changes to bail laws, naming repeat violent offenders, reinstating neighbourhood watch funding and mobile CCTV camera units for public events and crime hot spots.
I would urge local residents to back the Liberal candidate for Bellarine, Brian McIterick, a serving police officer for the past 39 years.
