I am delighted that Stage 1 of the Princes Highway duplication between Winchelsea and Colac has now opened, six months ahead of schedule.
This 11.5-kilometre section was the first to be completed since work first began on the duplication project in mid-2016.
The Turnbull government is investing 50 per cent in this $363 million project which is not only delivering improved road safety but driving jobs and investment across the region.
The opening of this section marks fantastic progress on the Princes Highway duplication, with drivers now able to enjoy four lanes of the upgraded highway from Deans Marsh Road, Winchelsea, to west of Armytage Road.
Over 9,000 vehicles, including 1,550 heavy trucks, use this section of the Princes Highway every day.
It is an exciting time for this project with the duplication of sections 2 and 3 – from Armytage Rd to Warncoort and from Warncoort to Colac – also underway.
The full duplication between Winchelsea and Colac is expected to be completed by mid-2019.
