Birregurra Mechanic’s Institute set for transformation

I am delighted to announce that the Birregurra Community Group’s ‘I have a hall in my heart’ project will receive $245,500 under round one of the Turnbull Government’s Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF).

The project will see the transformation of the Birregurra Mechanics Institute into a quality all-season, regional cultural facility and digital hub for communities in the Otways.

A key objective of the project is to increase opportunities for cultural tourism in Birregurra and the cultural participation of hard to reach demographics in the community including youth, indigenous and senior community members.

The project will see the installation of live performance and exhibition technology including stage/exhibition lighting, live streaming/video conferencing capabilities with cinema grade projector, dressing room and storage space.

A disability toilet will be added, along with LED lighting, compliant seating and accessibility ramps.

A village green outside the hall will be developed with signage, seating, pathways, a performance space and interactive sculptures.

Regional Arts Victoria, Colac Otway Shire, Birregurra Art Show and Birregurra Community Group are also contributing to the $491,000 project

Congratulations to Ian Court and everyone from the Birregurra Community Group for their hard work in seeing this project come to fruition.

Through the BBRF, the Turnbull Government is providing almost $500m over four years from 2016-17 to help fund priority infrastructure projects that foster economic growth in rural, regional and remote communities.
