Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash together with Federal Member for Corangamite Sarah Henderson announced that the grants round for the Geelong Regional Jobs and Investment Packages (RJIP) will open for applications on 31 May, following the publication of the committee’s Local Investment Plan.
“I thank the Geelong Local Planning Committee for its hard work. Their plan is based on local knowledge of the Geelong region.
“The Geelong Local Investment Plan will ensure that projects funded align with local priorities.
“This is a great opportunity for the community of Geelong to submit applications for key projects that will boost the local economy and create jobs,” said Minister Nash.
“I aim to help build the kinds of communities our children and grandchildren either want to stay in or come back to, and investing in sustainable local jobs does just that.”
Ms Henderson said the Local Planning Committee chaired by Deakin Vice Chancellor Jane den Hollander has developed a Local Investment Plan which will guide the government’s funding decisions.
“The Coalition Government is working hard to create more jobs and export opportunities, including in the Geelong and Corangamite regions.
“Our Jobs and Investment Fund has a big focus on investing in skills and training, and I look forward to seeing what applications are put forward,” said Ms Henderson.
“Our government is very proud to give the Geelong and Corangamite regions this $20 million shot in the arm.
“This will build on other local funding opportunities announced in the Federal budget including our $100m Advanced Manufacturing Fund and the $100m investment for the Geelong rail duplication project,” said Ms Henderson.
Funding will be available across three streams: Local Infrastructure, Business Innovation and Skills and Training, with the round opening for applications on 31 May.
