Australia Day Honours 2017

Congratulations to eight local residents who have made the 2017 Australia Day Honours List for their dedicated service to the people of our community.

Their service to the community through a range of organisations is highly commendable. The awards are fitting recognition of their outstanding service, dedication and contribution to the people of our region.

2017 local Australia Day Honours recipients:

  • Ivan Lee OAM, Ocean Grove – Order of Australia Medal for service to the community as a CFA volunteer
  • Prof Jane den Hollander AO, Deakin University – Order of Australia Officer for distinguished service to tertiary education, professional education and to the community
  • John Stubbings OAM, Belmont -Order of Australia Medal for service to music and the people of Geelong
  • Susan Wilson OAM, Portarlington – Order of Australia Medal for service to the community of Portarlington
  • Michael Persee OAM, Corio – Order of Australia Medal for service to the community through education
  • Ros Leigh OAM, Ceres – Order of Australia Medal for service to the community through a range of organisations including Ceres Community Association
  • Allister Cox OAM, South Geelong – Order of Australia Medal for service to orchestral and choral music
  • Geoffrey Beilby OAM, Colac, Order of Australia Medal for service to conservation and the environment

Congratulations also to Peter’s Project founder, Vicki Jellie, who has been named Australia’s Local Hero for 2017. The South-West Regional Cancer Centre which opened in Warrnambool in 2016 also serves the Colac community.
